Trainer Mickey Goldfine entered five of his horses into the GREAT
program in search of some answers to their health problems. Of
particular concern was Wild Event, who was "just not acting right."
Endoscopy answered why Wild Event wasn't acting right, didn't
want to eat, wasn't performing to his level and was generally
"out of sorts" -- he had grade 1 and 2 ulcers. Wild Event was
immediately started on GASTROGARD (omeprazole). Since treatment
with GASTROGARD has begun, Mr. Goldfine reports that Wild Event
"seems more relaxed." He was able to train more successfully,
and his performance has improved. Wild Event returned to competition.
Unfortunately,
months later, Wild Event suffered a training injury and was retired.
For the duration of his training up until his injury, he remained
on GASTROGARD at the maintenance dose and never suffered from
ulcers*.
*The
safety of GASTROGARD has only been studied for a treatment period
of 90 days or less.
