Mickey Goldfine

So Fleet, age 4 was sent from California to Chicago where she began training with Trainer Mickey Goldfine. She stopped gaining weight, and got colic. Mr. Goldfine's staff got her over colic, but she developed it for a second time. Colic and stomach ulcers were nothing new to Mickey Goldfine. He conferred with veterinarian Dr. Don Liechty and it was decided that So Fleet should be treated for ulcers.

She was placed on GASTROGARD (omeprazole) and her symptoms began to diminish. After the 28-day treatment, she was kept on a maintenance dose for at least another month. She remained healthy, and was performing well. As the ulcers healed, so did her weight problem. Mr. Goldfine estimates that she gained about 25 pounds and appears considerably more relaxed. Mr. Goldfine is convinced that his horse's eating habits have gotten better because her stomach discomfort is no longer interfering. He feels strongly that GASTROGARD has made the horse feel better, eat better, and therefore gain weight.

After her second month on GASTROGARD, she was switched to cimetidine*. Less than two weeks later, her health began to deteriorate. She just wasn't maintaining well on cimetidine. Colic was back, and Mr. Goldfine put her back on a maintenance dose of GASTROGARD.

She has been healthy since.

*Cimetidine is not approved for use in horses by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
