Bourbon Belle
is a prize horse, but suffers from severe ulcers. And she wasn't
brought to this point with the luxuries many other racing stars
are. In her own right, she is a success story.
Bourbon Belle
was bought from a breeder and raised on a small farm. Her talent
was not immediately apparent, but Mr. Salmen Sr. saw something
in this horse that others didn't. The family faced a number of
setbacks in training Bourbon Belle. The financial burden was at
times inexorable. They made it through everything with hard work,
dedication, and patience.
What they
could not control with any of these methods was her ulcers. She
was placed on a number of different medications with limited success.
What the Salmen family needed was a product which would cure the
ulcers and allow Bourbon Belle to overcome this obstacle. They
found GASTROGARD (omeprazole).
The success
story appears in the August 1, 1999 feature article which appeared
in the Louisville Courier-Journal. Bourbon Belle is highlighted
as a poster girl for GASTROGARD, stating she is a six stake winner
after taking the medication to treat her severe ulcers. Peter
Salmen explains in this story that "GASTROGARD cured the ulcer,
whereas other products given earlier did not, but just absorbed
the acid."
Her results
speak for themselves. Since her comeback from ulcers thanks to
GASTROGARD, she won 3 out of her last 4 starts, taking first in
the Allowance Race at Churchill Downs, the Regret Stakes at Monmouth
Park, and the Grade III Honorable Miss stakes in Saratoga. In
her last start, she was beaten by a nose in the Grade I Ballerina
Stakes at Saratoga.
Bourbon Belle
remained on GASTROGARD at the maintenance dose for at least a
month.
