What is GASTROGARD?

Omeprazole, the active ingredient in GASTROGARD, belongs to a novel class of antisecretory compounds, the substituted benzimidazoles. Omeprazole is 5-methoxy-2-[[(4-methoxy-3, 5-dimethyl-2-pyridinyl) methyl]sulfinyl]-1-H-benzimidazole. Its empirical formula is C₁₇H₁₉N₃S, and its molecular weight is 345.42. The structural formula is:

GASTROGARD, a flavored paste, contains 37% w/w omeprazole and is available in an adjustable-dose syringe. Each syringe contains 2.28 g of omeprazole.
